Posted from Tbird to answer questions about Battlesphere and the pre-order:

"Going back and reading some of these comments gives me the impression that a lot of these people are still complaining because of the misconception that the "poll"s we took for the original BattleSphere™ constituted some kind of "waiting list".

As was said many times before, the original idea behind the "poll" was over on JI2 where the limited software didn't allow formal voting. So, we just asked in the main forum how many people were interested so we would know how many copies to make. Some people emailed responses and others responded in the forum. Later, we added our own link to a script on our webpage where people could say they were interested. Between that time and the time of the actual RELEASE was several years. People moved, changed addresses, etc. in the meantime.

I guess a lot of people decided that answering one of the polls would guarantee them a copy or something, or a lot of people decided to USE that interpretation of what happed years later to try and shame us into selling them a copy, once the game became something they could make big bucks on by selling it on ebay.

As far as I know, a good effort was made to contact everyone on the "poll" lists at the time BattleSphere™ went on sale. Unfortunately, BattleSphere™ orders were handled by Steph, who is no longer with ScatoLOGIC, and she said long ago that BattleSphere™ lists were not saved. I have no way of knowing who answered the "poll"s.

When BattleSphere™ Gold went on sale, the lists were already long lost. Therefore, I explicitly stated that this was a NEW game, and because there were no records for the BattleSphere™ Polls, I would be starting over FRESH with the ordering procedure. At the time, people were already making noise regarding being denied a copy from the ORIGINAL game, so I personally handled all the orders and kept meticulous records of exactly who got copies and how many they had. I did this hoping to AVOID all the problems with "waiting lists" we had with the ORIGINAL BattleSphere™. I even tried to track external sales on ebay and such so I would know who had multiple copies or was trying to profit from the sales. I have every email ever sent and received archived, so I know who was told what and when.

Anyhow, I still have the impression that people who whine that "Thunderbird denied them a copy" of and were "on the list" fall into one of these categories:

a. They answered the "poll" for BATTLESPHERE™ and thought it was a "waiting list".
b. They were on the mailing list for BATTLESPHERE™, and NOT BattleSphere GOLD™ and did not realize I started over.
c. They are fabricating the claims to further an agenda.
d. They changed email addresses or otherwise could not be contacted.
e. They passed on their copy and were 'on the list', but now want to be offered a second chance at buying a copy.
f. They were removed from the waiting list because they banned me from a particular forum, or launched personal email/PM attacks against me. (3 people total)
g. They were removed from the waiting list because they bought multiple copies and began a BattleSphere Gold™ ebay auction the day I emailed them the tracking number of their shipment (one person).

This is a very complex situation, and very few people seem to understand what took place and why. Most people registering these complaints we see doing so OUTSIDE of where I am able to respond, so that calls into question the legitimacy of their comments right away.

These people I'm sure are well aware of their status, and choose to complain where they do because they know they have no legitimate gripe."

I think I probably fall under a, b, and d.

I was still a relative internet n00b and had just gotten my Kaybee clearance Jag. I know we changed ISPs a few times, and I forgot all about the release. We were just married and house shopping, and money was tight.

My inattention cost me dearly for my copy, but I can hardly fault Tbird or Scatalogic for that.

The cool thing is you don't fault Scatologic for that. A lot of folks out there seem to.... It's unfortunate and causes Tbird to constantly have to defend himself....

Yeah, it really seems that every time T'Bird is posting, it is in reply to something negative. So T'Bird posts something in defense in his usual manner (you know what I'm talkin' about laugh.gif), and the next thing you know, "It's On"!

I'm guessing the chances of a reissue are next to non-existent? It's so well regarded that I'd love to get a chance to try this game someday, but not at the price it commands on evilBay.

Pretty slim chance, but you never know, Tbird likes to surprise folks now and then.... wink.gif

A re-release would be awesome, but I'm definitely not counting on it. This will just be another in the long line of games I'll most likely never get to play.

Just my 2 cents, but I dont think I fall under any of those categories. I was on the last list for BSG. I Dont recall the original BS list as dont think I had internet at that point. I didnt get a copy even though I was told I was on the list & would be gotten to eventually. I havent changed my email address so was this because I had already bought a copy of BSG that I didnt get another? I dunno. Did I pass on the second copy? I dont think so, I thought I might have remembered that, but I cant say 100%.

I wanted the extra copy because I like doing the networks at the Jag shows over here in the UK, so more people get the chance to play it. I have 6 copies of Aircars for this purpose alone, which at the time of purchase were not cheap. For me it is all about getting together with friends & enjoying the Jaguar, not how much profit can I make on this or that, anyhoo...

I think the problem now is that as far as we know there are no more copies of BSG, as everyone who was on the list should have recieved one. Yet they keep appearing on eBay from time to time being sold by T-Bird, new & shrinkwrapped. Which seems a bit odd, coz if there were no more then there would be no more! From what I have read on the forums & what I have heard from talking to other people that is more the problem than anything else on the list.

At the end of the day its T-Birds baby to do with what he chooses, but until he finally sells his last copy then I think he will always get stick from certain areas of the community. But then I suppose he has suffered from this for far too long anyway! Must have a broad wing span!

As I said at the start this is just my 2 cents & others might see it differently.

I'm in no way complaining about this but I know for sure that I was on the list for BSG and I didn't get an email from Doug about it after he said all the preorders were done. I asked him if he could put me on the list on AA and he entheastically responded that I was on the list. Maybe he forgot to add me to the list or didn't have my email address or maybe he was pissed off at me for him getting banned on AA. Frankly, I wouldn't blame him. I'd be pissed as all hell. The truth though is that I had nothing to do with his banning. I was never asked my opinion on whether or not he should be banned. I found out the same was as everyone else in that last thread.

I always thought we were on good grounds because of the fact that we got a long together and never argued with each other. And ohh I don't know if you remember this but the "mystery guest" you asked me about is on this site and has kissed your ass a couple of times.

I remember one of the reasons that BS:G is a limited release is because of a chip shortage and/or expense hike. I'm curious now how that's changed. Are the chips available now?

Unfortunately, I was 90% sure I got on the list for the last batch of BS:G and I emailed Thunderbird a couple of times when I never got the email regarding a purchase. I do remember asking if I was infact on this list and my recollection was he said I was on it. I unfortunately didn't save that email but as time has gone on, I think it was possible I switched isp's sometime from the time I got on the list until the release of the last batch. I think it was like a year period in-between.

Anyhow, I was pretty disappointed that I didn't get a copy. But, I have gotten over it since. But you know what WOULD be awesome, if there was an exclusive JSII release of BS:G withOUT the extras, the BJL etc. This would make it different and also require a little less work to package. Another cool thought would be to use normal grey carts to save on the cost of the clear ones. Or maybe sacrafice some Trevor McFur black carts and use those! That would be pretty cool! laugh.gif But even if there is never another release...what are ya gonna do? lol...One can only wish.

PS: Just incase another list is started I'd like to be on that. My email is kevincali22@comcast.net... growl.gif

PPS: T-bird, it is really cool of you take the time to participate in these forums.

If Tbird would have let me I could have produced BS or BSG carts with the chips I used for the FFL Beta. That's a 4mb cart. smile.gif Having said that it wouldn't have met "quality control" though.

Gosh, I didnt realize Doug was taking it so seriously.
Well I must appologize as I ALWAYS rib ol T-bird about not
getting a copy but I certainly dont want Doug to think I hold
some sort of grudge. After all it is just a game. I tend to find
people more valuable. Not worth being a dick over sleep.gif .
So T-bird, I'm only busting your chops when I rib you about
not getting those copies. wink.gif However, this does NOT mean I
would not still like to have one. laugh.gif Truth be told, EVERYONE
SHOULD BE GLAD I DID'NT! I may never have gotten GORF
done(oops, did I say that?)! The truth is I would have little time
to play BS to really appreicate it.

Peace

Doug should GIVE you a copy man! You are the GORFIAN KING! C'mon! What's wrong with that guy! laugh.gif
