I am looking into this for my cousin. I need a good PS1 racer that has two player mode. Has to be same console and also includes the other racers still in the game.

If your cousin is looking for a kid friendly game, Crash Team Racing is a really good Mario Kart clone.
If they want mainstream racing games, Ridge Racer Type 4 and Gran Turismo 2 both had two player split screen. I don't remember if they had AI opponents during two player though. Rollcage Stage 2 and Wipeout 3 were decent games with split screen two player also, if they're looking for futuristic racing. <some of the earlier games in these series didn't have two player mode, so they'd have to get these specific sequels> This post has been edited by tomwaits: Jun 19 2012, 05:06 AM -------------------- |

Ridge Racer Revolution! Can't remember if its split screen (i do believe it is) but i got 2 of them for networking 2 PS1's (NOT PS One's!).
Downside: Most people don't have 2 PS1's nor the link cable Upside: Nothing beats link-up play!! -------------------- Twitter: @Serblander - Veni, Vidi, Twiterri... + @WeirdAndRetro « Official WaR account of the TV Show Weird And Retro the FaceBook Fan page for the TV segment - games, reviews & strolls down pixelated memory lanes |

Gran Turismo 2 offers split screen racing, not sure about the first one though, been way too long. Depending on the type of racing you want, you'd be hard pressed to find a better simulation style racing game on the system.

HOW DID YOU...
get on with this one Jag Chris? Incidentally, Ridge Racer Revolution isn't a 2P outside of link-up mode. Neither is Rage Racer. |

Downside: Most people don't have 2 PS1's nor the link cable Upside: Nothing beats link-up play!! Great game for that. Also, for the linking, if you have WipEOut and WipEOut XL, those are so worth it. Amazing linked. On a side note, Need For Speed on the Playstation was horrid. Same with Saturn version as well EA should have just called them "Generic Arcade racing" because the 3DO version is the only console version that actually get's it right like the PC version. Vanishing Point for the Playstation was awesome. I know it's an Acclaim game, but man, you have AI racers as welol as two player split screen while racing AI racers and hardly any slowdown or fall off in the distance. The game is gorgeous for a Playstation game. Very good in the control area as well. If you want an intetresting experience, you could always track down San Francisco Rush also. Yes, it is two player split screen and the other racers also race you. Graphics get strange though. Hard to explain what I mean without you actually seeing it though. -------------------- ![]() |

ALTHOUGH I APPRECIATE... that this is a PS1 thread, you may as well just grab VPoint for DC instead, if you have one? As for SanFranRush on PS1, that game is terrible. The N64 version is a God amongst arcade racers by comparison... well, it's a God amongst arcade racers full stop in my book: Rush, Rush2 & 2049! |

VP on the DC was mediocre at best, combing crappy control with mediocre and inconsistent physics performance. Hopefully it was better on the PS1. |

Not to mention the horrid controls on San Francisco Rush for the N64. Man, the fact that your cars wave back and forth on screen when turning because of Analogue issues disqualifies it for me. -------------------- ![]() |
