... you just know he also has a PS2 games collection in the next room to which he cavorts in an even more disturbing fashion to the tune of Madonna's song, Justify My Love!

I think NeoGeo AES collectors are insane anyway. There are several AES (home) carts that sell for thousands when you can get a functionally identical MVS (arcade) cart for $50. A unibios in an MVS allows you to reconfigure as a home system, and several MVS models support memory cards. The only thing that you gain by spending thousands on AES carts is bragging (& dancing) rights.

As cool as this guy arguably may well be I still say he's got "AES tendencies" - Evolution of Dance That was great. My sister, my mom and I all thank you for sharing the link to that video with us! However, this guy dancing the way he does right here most definitely NEVER owned an AES - Youtube Of course he didn't own an AES. Everyone knows he was a Sega fan! Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you all loved that first vid - that guy is brilliant and I thought it even better watched a second or third time.
Yep, Michael was definitely a Sega fan, lol! I recently read that although he owned a ton of arcade titles, with many of them been Sega cabs, he didn't actually own the Moonwalker cab. Bizarre maybe but that was MJ I guess! I just bought a great condition Neo Turf Masters MVS cart for $50 shipped. I was searching completed ebay listings first to confirm whether the price was reasonable and noticed an AES version in 'very good' condition that sold for $3000! I know it's one of the rarer AES releases, but why would anyone pay $3000 for a $50 game? Insane!!!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEO-TURF-MASTERS-NEO-G...Z200443154332QQ The auction was a couple weeks ago so the buyer is probably dancing with his new game by now... Also, the MVS shockbox project has been renewed so there are brand new, high quality cases and inserts available for MVS games again. For $11 you can get a fancy box with color insert that's a perfect fit for MVS arcade carts. You can even choose inserts modeled after the AES cases. I'm slowly filling a pseudo-AES shelf with my Neo favorites. http://southtown-homebrew.com/index.php?cPath=1 -------------------- |

HEY!!!
Less of this slagging of AES collectors! I'm kidding of course, I cannot be so hypocritical, even tough I must raise an eyebrow considering how much you guys invest in Jaguar hardware and games - $400+ for BSGold?? You HAVE to be kidding me!! Such cash could get you a real nice boxed AES or indeed some nice boxed top notch titles for your existing AES. Swings and roundabouts I guess... As for these AES games that fetch thousands? These are pretty few and far between. I know that (I haven't looked) a Euro copy of TurfMasters fetches muchos money BUT an AES collector or not, you still have to be a f*ckin' fruitloop to spend that much on a game, let alone a generic title like TurfMasters (I'm not saying that it's a bad game mind!). The only other title that immediately springs to mind is the illustrious 12 or so Euro copies of Kizuna Encounter that supposedly exist - selling for approx $12,000+ at a time! Mental!! Similarly to what 'Tom' said, you can either: a) get the JP AES copy for MUCH less or... MOST crazy thing out of all of this is that all in all - they (i.e. Kizuna) are ALL the same game, just housed and labelled differently! That's right... some tosser has paid $12k for an insert, manual and label!!! m-e-s-s-e-d u-p! All you need is the UniBios to switch the region on your AES and... VIOLA! You can turn your cheap(er) JP AES Kizuna into the US/Euro version or indeed turn your MVS version into the AES version (JP or US/Euro). AS TOM W... has already said, and as an SNK/NEO enthusiast, I agree... the way forward (imo) is MVS. You can - as Tom has said - go to SouthTown and not only buy AES-esque shockboxes for your orphaned MVS cart BUT you can also pick from a vast library of varying (professionally designed) insert artwork to place in your box - for FREE! Just download and print it off! Alternatively, you can pay them, and they will do it all for you - a very professional finish too I believe! SO I TOO... feel the AES scene, for the average earner, is too expensive and as such being a 'ninja' I have always sought out alternate means to get my SNK fix - an NO emulation either! I play a majority of SNK/P's library via: Saturn, DC & PS2. A couple of the ports are 'suspect' but overall, they're pretty much spot-on. I shall, however, be acquiring a custom CMVS1-slot in the near future for my SNK/Neo fix! I'll never prioritise it over all my ports though. Trial and error I guess... I think a lot of Jaguar collectors were around for the original release of BSG though and the initial price was reasonable. For me, by the time I'd heard about BSG it was too late. I'd never spend current BS/BSG prices for any game so I'll probably never play it... Still, the overall Jaguar library (or any other console) can't match the insanity of AES collecting. It's not just the ridiculous Kizuna Encounter or Neo Turf Masters, even the Metal Slugs and many of the late AES releases typically sell for hundreds. This neo-geo.com price guide actually seems lower than recent auction values:
http://www.neo-geo.com/guides/aesguide.html I've got a 1-slot MVS motherboard with unibios and a memory card reader. Configure the unibios as a US - AES and my MVS carts boot right into the home cart menu. The unibios is pretty glitchy with the 100-in-1 MVS multicart, but individual MVS carts transform to AES no problem. Switch to Japanese AES for bloody & bouncy, or just leave as MVS and change blood & bounce settings via softdip. Very versatile setup for less than the price of an AES console. If you get into MVS, it seems like buying the shockboxes and inserts together from Southtown is a lot easier than downloading their artwork and printing your own. Inserts are only $3 and they print, cut, and slide them into the shockbox sleeve. Even if you had a printer that could handle large paper, it's a lot of ink. Also, if you do ever print your own, avoid glossy paper because I've heard the glossy paper can melt/stick into the shockbox outer sleeve. After looking at the various Southtown inserts, I decided to stick with the traditional AES style. I figure I'd be looking at the spines more often than the fronts/backs and my personal preference is to have them all uniform. Lots of their designs have wrap-around background graphics or sequential spine graphics that make a larger picture when you line up an entire series. So far, they've had an AES style insert available for each of my MVS carts but Southtown also lets you submit your own designs if you don't like the options that other fans have created. There were a lot of solid ports for the MVS fighting games & Metal Slugs, but most of the other NeoGeo games were never ported to other consoles. Especially the late 90's and early 00's MVS exclusives that really pushed the hardware. Lots of great exclusives to discover if you get an MVS multicart. There are cheap bootleg versions of late MVS carts too that pulled the roms off an older game and swapped in pirated eproms of a late release. If you decide to avoid all the shady stuff, legit MVS carts aren't too expensive... much less than BSG. -------------------- |

Took a couple pics of my current MVS collection/shockboxes. The sad thing is that for half of them the $11 that I paid for the shockbox & insert is more than I paid for the game...
My 100-in-1 MVS cart was top of the line a year ago. In the last year there have been 108-in-1, 111-in-1, 120-in-1, 138-in-1, and the brand new 150-in-1. The first two just added hacks of games that were already on the 100-in-1, but the last three added some major new titles. The 138-in-1 was tempting but it has some functional problems. If the 150-in-1 has resolved those issues I might spend the $120 to 'update'...

The Fatal Fury series for me is the best series of fighting games ever, especially the RB series (can never decide on a clear favourite!). Good to see 'ADK' there too. That game get's a rough time, but I think it's pretty decent myself. Joe Kusanagi is the man, but I always tend to stick to Fuuma/Fuma myself. AND... do you always use Chatting & Sexy Parodius to photograph your Multicart on? The shame... |
