Alright ladies & gents, a friend of mine in the youtube/YT gaming community made a Jag 3D graphical showcase. The footage is edited to the intense Ultra Yak from the T2K soundtrack
The games he featured are: I-War Checkered Flag Iron Soldier Doom Alien vs. Predator Tempest 2000 Fight for Life Hoverstrike World Tour Racing Skyhammer Wolfenstein 3D His channel/YT name is ItsCoolFromSaturn. He shows the Jaguar, Saturn, & Turbo 16 some major love! I know his a big fan of Super Burnout & Atari Karts as well, but I believe he was going more for 3D polygons, 3D style, texture mapping, shading, etc in the graphics to hush those who don't believe or Jag can render them. Fun fact, he is an Aussie from those of you from those parts. Kudos to ItsCoolFromSaturn on this one! That was a great video! Thanks for sharing the link to it and thanks to your friend for uploading it.
The Jaguar still gets bashed too much online, especially on YouTube, but it's good to see some corrective measures, even if the naysayers still outnumber us... |

Great idea. I like the way he edited to the music.
not to be critical, maybe just as constructive criticism what would be nice to see from those games: I-War - Showing the reflective textures of the shield when in 3rd person mode. That blew me away when I first saw it and is certainly the most impressive effect of the game. One of the cooler special effects in many Jag games IMHO. Hover Strike - The animated textures on the organic levels and the lighting effects from the shots in dark areas. Those are things I checked out over and over again. Of course that is on the CD version, not the cart. Iron Soldier - Blow up some more buildings! CyberMorph - Just spinning around in circles to show the different shading effects This post has been edited by Shaggy: Jul 10 2012, 09:35 AM -------------------- |

Now, if Jaguar adverts were like that it might have gotten somewhere. No stupid teacher or gimmicks just games in action, who'd have thought?
As an aside how many of these games are actually 3D? Doom, Wolf 3D and AVP are awesome but they don't count surely? |

Doom, Wolf 3D and AVP are awesome but they don't count surely? AGREED @ MARKETING MAN! Yeah, Andrew (ItCoolFromSaturn) & I talked in a few PMs while he was editing the vid. He was kind of torn Bc he also wanted to originally include Atari Karts, Super Burnout, & Ultra Vortek. Those are all impressive also! He decided to go with "3D" & used those FPS titles to show off the Jag as well. I'm not familiar with the AvP engine (although I own the game lol) but yeah technically Doom & Wolf are on a 2D engine using scaling & mapping to give the appearance of a 3D world. The Jag port of Doom is noteworthy as it runs smooth, takes up the full screen, enemy sprites don't just face forward (32X!) & has great textures. The Jag Wolfenstein is amazing. Full screen, new music, cleaned up graphics (based off the Apple port IIRC), & the lives/points have been changed to health (Doom style). John Carmack recent did a play & talk of Wolf for it's anniversary & when he got on the subject of console ports, he praised the Jag game. While these 3 might not be "true" 3D, noteworthy psuedo 3D efforts that show the Jag's power IMO. -------------------- ![]() |
