Under Defeat HD (PS3 & Xbox 360) Options

Yep, the excellent quality arcade and Dreamcast shmup Under Defeat from G.Rev appears to be getting an HD update release for PS360. Nothing is officially confirmed as of yet but the signs are looking good that it'll happen...

The Dreamcast version back in 2006 is of course known for being the last ever release on GD-ROM and so is seen by some as the final "official" DC (and Naomi too, iirc) game.

Anyway, this news isn't surprising. No doubt Border Down (etc) will follow.

would be nice to see these released on physical media, alas, it's simply NOT financially viable to do so (i.e. like the Milestone collection for Wii - which maybe was).

Nice to see GRev supporting Ps3 as opposed to Cave seemingly snubbing it!

Classic helicopter shoot'em up Under Defeat storms to gaming front lines in 2012. First released in 2005 for arcades, the later Dreamcast version has since become a premium item. ■ Destructive Realism
Rumbling tank suspensions. Explosions and flumes of smoke. Trees blown back with the blasts.
Under Defeat pushed to the limits of the Dreamcast's graphics quality, presenting the battlefield in full 3D with realistic detail. Though the gameplay stays true to the simplicity of a traditional 2D-shooter, Under Defeat's expressionism allows gamers to indulge in the pleasure of blowing digital things up.

■ All new Remix Mode
Under Defeat HD is not just a port of the original title. In addition to the arcade version, the all new Remix Mode (temporary name) makes full use of 16:9 televisions. More details to come, so stay tuned.

■ Limited Reproduction Edition
UD HD will be available in regular and limited edition versions.
The limited edition includes:
1) Kami ・ Strategy DVD*. Video of expert game play and HOW TO tutorial for the arcade version
2) NEW ORDER Soundtrack (temporary title). Rising game music composer Yosuke Yasui of Super Sweep, who worked on titles such as Mamoru-kun is Cursed! and Eschatos, brings his talent to make a renewed Under Defeat soundtrack!
3) Plus! Special Limited Edition box featuring an original illustration by character designer Nanashiki Yamamoto

Fans will also be happy to hear that the game package design of the limited edition will be based on the original Dreamcast limited edition design!

It'll be interesting to see how that pans out. For instance,

* will both the arcade version and the Remix Mode be in HD?
* if the arcade version is as it originally appeared (with solely the 'Remix Mode' being in HD) then will there be any 'filters' used, and if so will this be optional?

I was kinda hoping for an XBLA release... perhaps that'll happen stateside. I don't know if I could justify paying full retail price on any system other than the DC, where it was a fairly ambitious feat at the time. Still one of the better shmups tho, so glad they caved despite claiming that "they'd never port it to next-gen platforms because they'd rather just produce a new game." Probably realized producing commecially viable shmups is harder than they though and this was one of them.

Anyway, just a few more releases out of sega and I can tuck away my Dreamcast for good! the XBOX has really got some of the better DC games such as Rez, Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Ikaruga, Mr Driller, Worms, Daytona USA, Sega Rally, Crazy Taxi, Code Veronica .etc

I'd love to see a port of the original bangai-o, Jet Grind Radio, illbleed, crazy taxi 2, headhunter and a few others (perhaps even napple tale) but I'm guessing they're not going to port them all

The other box art (new) is pretty nasty looking imo. It's a shame they didn't use the original L.E. DC box art as an option, instead of banishing it to internal packaging (or is it... a reversible sleeve?! If so, that is beyond amazing!!)

Agreed - the standard release box art looks considerably better than the LE release box art. Yep, the DC-style over art pic looks superb and it would have been best if they'd used that instead. Oh well!

did anybody get this?

I plan to acquire it at some point, but seeing as I already own the DC versions, I'm in no rush right now.

Keen to know if any of you guys bought this though.
