I wish all you guys who are supposed to never have been contacted would tell me what email addresses you used to write me, or perhaps your names you used in correspondence, because I have every email I ever received and sent and I have no idea who's handle online here goes with what name/email.

Cool, could you check out kevin_in_cal_20@sbcglobal.net biggrin.gif
That was the email I used to contact you regarding the last batch of BS:G

If you need to reach me now, my email is kevincali22@comcast which I have never contacted you with. laugh.gif

And thanks for your time. wink.gif

Another cool thought would be to use normal grey carts to save on the cost of the clear ones.  Or maybe sacrafice some Trevor McFur black carts and use those!  That would be pretty cool!

I think BattleSphere was released in the condition it was, with the attention paid to box quality, art and even the details of manufacturing the components because it was supposed to be a prized release/addition. From what I gather, the release meant something and was to be done properly and not just a shit release or quick money maker. Seems like selling the game any other way would be insulting as a lot of pride was taken in all aspects.
Thinking about it like that, seems all the requests over the years for a BS:G withOUT all the extras or even a barebones pcb "so it don't cost so much" would defeat the purpose of having such a pristine piece of software make it's way to consumers.

If I'd gone through all that, I'd want my baby sent out in a dominant fashion. After all, it's the best game on the system. cool.gif

That last statement is directed toward certain Tempest and AvP lovin Admins. mad.gif

Then we have the issue of certain people who need every variation swooping in and buying up all the "Opaque" BattleSphere Gold™s on the market. Then we have more versions that people will ebay and there will be arguments over what one is more rare or all that crap.

Plus, the clear cases amortize the cost of the tooling needed to make it. The more clears out there, the less each one has cost by some fraction.

Additionally, it might bear mentioning that BattleSphere Gold™ was created to curtail the highway robbery people were perpetuating with the original game. There was only supposed to be a single run of them and there were only supposed to be one time period where names were taken.

Names were taken and there would be a huge influx of orders and then the demand would completely dry up and there would be weeks without a request. Then we would cease collecting names and get the games made and distributed.

What inevitably happened was that people would get their copy and start discussions online and stragglers would therefore "discover" the game existed long after it had sold out. They would beg for another batch and eventually enough names would collect up that would make the minimum job number for a new batch. Those would then sell out. Then MORE people would "discover" the game throught this process and it would repeat.

Over time this process would play out and eventually people started peddling them on ebay for way more then the retail price. This attracted the attention of speculators and then we run into the problem of the casual Jaguar fan being shut out of a run because they only read messages once in a while and missed out on the deadline.

I think Jay has the right idea to just make a very strict limit on the production runs and never make more. Repeatedly arranging these small runs every few months as the requests accumulate is VERY taxing.

My mistake was probably that I wanted to insure everyone had a chance to get a copy, so I kept collecting names and making more batches. It probably would have caused less trouble if I had just stuck to the original plan and made one batch and let it be "first come, first served" and no more would be made.

Hmmm... I fall under at least b. and d.

I was on an email list (can't remember which one at this moment) but I did change emails during the whole thing. (Once or twice!)

I'd have to boot up my old computer to verify but I definitely remember I emailed TBird and he verified I was on a list. My name was coming up, but he was waiting to hear back from a few others that had dibs before me. This was around Chirstmas time and that was a reason he was giving these folks extra time to get back to him. What with holiday shopping and all. (don't remember the year as I'm at work and can't boot up old computer).

The new year came. I heard nothing. I changed ISP's, a long while passed. I then emailed TBird again and he told me I was not on any list, and he didn't have any emails from me.

Oh well such is my luck I guess. But if there is any new announcements about BS I'll be sure to keep better track this time.

(On a good note, I finally managed to win a copy of the original BS on ebay a few weeks back. It cost an arm and a leg but what the hell. As long as I still have good credit it's all good! Though bidding for BSG is still way outta my league!)

It probably would have caused less trouble if I had just stuck to the original plan and made one batch and let it be "first come, first served" and no more would be made.

I've found it much easier to just "cut" production off. I've pretty much decided I will NOT be producing any more FFL Betas. This is great for those that have purchased them because it guarantees them a product that will go up in value as the things you've already talked about begin to happen. I'm still getting emails about the Extremist Packs now and then even though they haven't been in production for well over a year....(the last one that is)....

The FFL Beta is very unique in that this is my first attempt (and possibly last) at a cart. The workload in producing a cart is just way too time consuming. With some help it appears I've been provided with an alternative, but it's more trouble than it's worth for me. I wanted to do it, I've done it, now I think I'm done with it at least for the time being. I can't speak for my overseas partner though, I think he might be stepping up to the plate very soon.... wink.gif
