I want the new Darius, it's pretty awesome looking and it's a 4 player co-op game.

SHMUP NUT HERE...
Chuffed to see Darius getting a resurgence! Running on Taito's own hardware no less!! Was unhappy that the first Darius Burst ONLY saw a PSP release, however, I'm really happy about this arcade release as it perhaps means we'll see an XBLA/PSN release at some point in the future? Heh... 2x Plasma/LCD screen set-up FTW (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Also... when looking through the articles you so kindly linked (shaggy!) I was curious to read about Elevator Action: Death Parade?? Wow! Never even heard of this one. I have EAReturns for my Saturn and it it a truly fantastic game so... this could be even more 'good' news (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cobracon.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ninja.gif) EDIT: Scratch that! It's a gun game - which, I like gun games but... meh. I wanted ACTUAL Elevator Action (IMG:style_emoticons/default/glare.gif) This post has been edited by NeoGeoNinja: Jul 31 2010, 04:10 AM |

Darius Burst:AC is on Taito's Type X2 arcade platform, which is basically just a Windows XP PC. It'll probably get a single screen 360 port in Japan since it'll be an easy code migration.
The cabinet looks great. Two widescreen displays side by side is a massive play area for a multiplayer horizontal shmup. |

Taito hasn't really ported any of their recent arcade titles to any other platform (that I know of) - they seem to prefer to make a unique version of a game per platform. I have Chase HQ2 in my arcade and it's still arcade exclusive, even though it wasn't a commercial success in arcades and it uses the same hardware that the new Darius does.
Elevator Action Death Parade is a interesting light-gun game but I agree, I would have been happier with a sidescroller along the lines of Elevator Action Returns. |

My first thought was Raiden IV, which was only ported to the 360/PC. But you're right, after looking at a list of Taito Type X / X2 games, most of the games that have had home ports weren't developed by Taito. Doesn't look like Taito have been developing many games lately in general. Saw an interesting link though that Chaos Breaker, a Taito fighting game that runs on Type X will be coming to PS3 (PSN) soon.
As a side note, looks like Type X is cracked and image files can be played on a comparable powered PC. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

Yeah, Raiden IV was by MOSS. A lot of different companies are working with Taito's hardware, which must be because it saves them a little money on developing their own PC I/O board. It's really time for Taito to do an X3 board. It is too bad that very few companies develop their own hardware these days (IGS is a notable exception) but it makes sense as why spend millions of dollars making your own hardware when other companies have done it for you in the form of a PC.

Pengo is interesting but I think it's disappointing that they will put it on 2p cabinets and not on one 8p cabinet. Without updating the graphics that would make it a little tough to sell, making the operator buy four nice cabinets to dedicate on the game, which doesn't have the name recognition that some other classics have. Hopefully Sega realizes that an 8p cabinet would be better and does that.
Then they will have a much better chance at competing with Pac-Man Battle Royale, which is what this is all about. |
