> Wouldn't it be cool if...
Posted by MajorHavoc 2049 - 09-8-10 12:09 - 2 comments
I was just talking with T2KFreeker in the the Xbox forum about how to set up XBConnect and it got me thinking.

This is my original post:
Na, you just network your XB to your PC, download the XBConnect software onto your PC and it tricks your XB into thinking it is playing a system link multiplayer game.

Wouldn't it be cool if...

Na, you just network your XB Atari Jaguar to your PC, download the XBConnect Jaguar Connect software onto your PC and it tricks your XB Atari Jaguar into thinking it is playing a system link multiplayer game of Doom, Aircars or Battlesphere.

I don't have the skills, but would this be hard to do with the Jag?

So maybe Im waay out of the loop, but whats going on?
I thought there was only a few levels on the old unreleased version, and now Im hearing that reboot has unlocked more of it???

If so, will this be a release to buy? Im very very interested in playing a more finished version!

> Which Jag games would have made awesome arcade titles?
Posted by Shaggy - 09-4-10 10:02 - 16 comments
In this day and age it's not uncommon to see a console game ported over to arcades, such as with Blazing Angels or Guitar Hero but I was thinking about some of the Jag's library and what games unique to the Jag would have been like as arcade titles back in the day? Had something like that been tried in a few cases, it could have been a great way to advertise the Jag to more people (remember how they billed Killer Instinct? It was an Ultra64 game you could play before the N64 was out, etc). The Jag itself had a brief stint thanks to the CoJag hardware but what about the software(minus those that are arcade ports already)?

I automatically think of Kasumi Ninja and Ultra Vortek - those always would have been a perfect fit with arcade controls. They probably wouldn't have stood out much at the time however since they were MK clones.

Tempest 2000 would have been amazing - put it in a cabinet just like the original Tempest but remove the original and plus modes, with a spinner and booming sound system and it would have turned some heads.

Missile Command 3D was an arcade title on the VR systems but it would have worked out fine as a regular title using a trackball controller too.

Super Burnout is always a game that I felt was an arcade quality title like Sega's Super Hang-On but it looked better than Sega's effort.

Racing games are always better in arcades and imagine how Checkered Flag would have been like calibrated for an arcade steering wheel, or how Atari Karts might have worked in a similar setup.

Iron Solider would have made an excellent entry into the not-so-often used mech genre. Make a sitdown cabinet, probably give it a flight stick control with an analog thruster stick for adjusting speed, use a booming surround sound system and it would have worked out quite well.

Any other ideas?

> New Jaguar games losing memory?
Posted by Chuplayer - 08-31-10 15:50 - 16 comments
I have bought some new Jaguar games (new to the best of my knowledge), and most of them have exhibited signs of losing their memory. But they only lose their memory once. At least, they have only done so once each so far. I haven't had any repeat offenders yet. All of these games came from the same place.

Tempest 2000 - I had this game longer than the rest. This one lost its memory a couple days after I got it. I've had it for nearly a month now, and with some off and on playing, it has been fine since.

Super Burnout - I had actually left this in the Jaguar console overnight, and when I played it the next day, the save data was reset. This happened a few days ago, and it's been fine sine.

Wolfenstein 3D - This just happened a few minutes ago. I turned the console off and took the game out. I then put it back in and decided to check it out before I put it away for good. I thought I noticed a sound pop as the Jaguar intro came up. Anyway, the save was gone. (I made it all the way to nearly the end of the game, too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad01_anim.gif) )

This hasn't happened with my other two Jaguar games, Alien vs. Predator and Doom, which I got with the console. I don't remember if these games had save data on them when I got them, but I do know that my saves haven't vanished. My same scores from last winter in Alien vs. Predator are still there, and Doom still has all of the levels selectable.

I'm wondering if this one-time memory loss is normal for Jaguar games. Like, it has to break in the memory module or something. I'll keep an eye out in the future for if it happens again, especially one of the above games. I don't know if my console is bad or what.

> The "Lap Cat Pro"?
Posted by DreamcastRIP - 08-30-10 13:19 - 13 comments
Whilst looking on the 'net for anything Jaguar-related I'd not yet seen I happened upon this Japanese website - Link.

Check out the first two links located at the bottom-right of the page for some fun pics of folk at a past JagFest event and the pics from the Jag-ware catalogue. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Anyways, the thing that really caught my attention was the "LAP CAT" link where upon selecting it reveals this picture:
Attached File  lapcat.jpg ( 28.31K ) Number of downloads: 80

Anyone here ever heard of such a thing?

EDIT:
I also just discovered this other rather interesting "Jaguar Japan" link at the same website. From selecting the links within it to me would appear to be a Jaguar magazine or fanzine produced within Japan. Here's a couple of the front covers I copied and saved:
Attached File  jj6_00.jpg ( 75.41K ) Number of downloads: 36
Attached File  jj7_00.jpg ( 78.71K ) Number of downloads: 34

Anyone here able to provide an English language translation?

> Optimal Use of cdrecord for Windows…
Posted by gamerman2174 - 08-27-10 03:16 - 5 comments
I got some questions for those who use cdrecord for Windows to burn files for the Jaguar CD Player. I am trying to burn something for Jaguar CD at the slowest speed possible so I do not get any read errors on my disc during encryption of the disc. I have set the speed to =1 and =2 on different occasions on the batch file that commands cdrecord to burn the correct amount of files at the desired speed. I believed that these settings were the slowest possible settings. I once set the batch file to burn at =0 to experiment and it burned too fast for the Jaguar to read the CD correctly. So, what setting is most appropriate for cdrecord to burn at so it can create a CD-ROM for the Jaguar CD Player's double-speed mechanism to read it correctly?

How would I read double-speed on the cdrecord prompt window and batch file settings? I thought that everything I was doing was correct thus far. But, it seems one track will not encrypt on my CD even though it reads during the time I use a bypass cartridge. The track should be fine, it is just the encryption issue. No dice there, it seems.

So, I came back to the intelligent users of this forum to help me out of my dilemma. I hope that someone can help me solve my issues. Because, the help that I have received in the past from here has helped tremendously before.

Thanks. Any advice is gladly (and duly, of course) appreciated. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Was just having a search for some Aircars info (I'm not obsessed honest! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ) when I came across this! 13th worst game ever! Now from reading that description I don't think the guy has even played the game! TWAT (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
I've got a feeling that this idiot has been talked about before! Oh well you can't beat a nice informed piece of work!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
