I have played "Entombed" for the first time

Yes, yes, I know, the game has been out there for a very long time. I never owned the game before now. After playing it now though, I feel foolish for never having tracked it down before now. The game is an excellent maze game. US games made it so I have to ask if there were any other good US Games I need to keep an eye out for on the 2600? Anyone else have thoughts on this release?

Yuppers, just restored the system!

Yeah, so it has been a bit since I have pulled the 2600 out and played it. I have two light sixers at this point and a dead Vader I will be rebuilding later down the road. I just got the itch and was horrified when they came out of my closet. I thought they would be protected in the plastic case they were in, but somehow the cases cracked and caved in. The good news is that the systems were not physically damaged. The bad news is that they had so much dust on them hat they looked like they had fur! I was quite shocked! Basically, it was time for action! The systems are now cleaned quite beautifully, and they look almost new, if you ask me. For my own future reference, does anyone know where I might be able to pick up a couple of those old 2600 Game system cases. The ones with the hinged plastic door on top and the carts sit under the system itself? I'd really like to avoid this happening again if I can.

Score?

I just won this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=230476976065

To be honest, I'm a little confused at how the auction turned out, as I fully expected to be outbid, but instead ended up being bid up to my maximum, after which nobody else touched the auction.

So what do you think? Did I get a good deal, or have I overestimated the value of a 4-port 5200?

Really I'm pretty happy with the outcome, I'm just not sure why nobody outbid me.

Anyway, it'll be great finally having a 5200 again! And since I paid less for this than what my old one sold for, I don't feel like I'm out any extra (in spite of the fact that I sold a 2600 adapter with the first one, which I don't need now as I currently have 3 working 2600s and a 7800).

Imagic Videos

Here's some videos I ran into yesterday about the game company "Imagic" the makers of "Atlantis." I remember playing this game on the old "Krocodile" a while back. It's fasinating that the game makers of those early days put as much hardwork as what todays game makers do. I like Demon Attack... Very cool game with some great sound effects.

The Making of Atlantis
Just Kidding 1983 - Imagic video game company segment
Demon Attack

Saving an old Atari heavy 6-switcher

I have had an Atari 2600 Jr for quite a long time, and play games on it regularly - especially since I received a Harmony cart. (Great device for playing homebrews, etc.)

I decided I really wanted an older 'woodgrain' style Atari, and found an eBay seller in Canada with one of the original 'Sunnyvale' heavy 6-switchers. I put in a bid and won it for just $7 - plus $22 shipping!

The 2600 arrived promptly and with good packaging. I unboxed it, connected and fired up a game right away. Beautiful picture and everything was great - for about 10 minutes. About every 8 to 12 minutes, the machine would lock up or reset itself. Very frustrating! I put up a post on AtariAge and asked people if they had any ideas. Right away a couple of guys came back and said it was likely the 7805 voltage regulator, a cheap $1 part.

I have no soldering skills, so I decided to find someone else to do it. I put an ad up on Craigslist, and got a quick response from a guy who is a tech on an electronics production line. I agreed to show him my Atari. He was very much into videogaming also, and has a huge collection of items, including a 4-switcher. He opened up the case, and soldered in a new 7805 IC in maybe 20 minutes, including testing it out on his TV with a game of Space Invaders. He asked for $10, which I thought was a bargain.

I brought the heavy 6-er back home and played a solid hour of Golf, Q*bert, Seawolf, and BurgerTime. Absolutely no problems at all!

The machine ended up costing me $40 but it was well-worth it to get this piece of original Atari history!
http://www.jaguarsector.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=11836
